6. AI FEATURES AND DATA SHARING
In Short: Orbit's AI features have different privacy properties depending on the feature. Ambient AI uses only anonymized aggregates. Conversational AI and premium personalized insights send your connections' first names and basic metadata for the specific query, never stored on our servers.
Orbit uses AI to provide insights and answer questions about your dating life. Different AI features have different privacy properties — each is described below.
Ambient Insights (no personal information sent to AI)
The Overview, Key Insights, Patterns Noticed, and Things to Try sections on your Insights screen are powered by ambient AI. For these features, Orbit sends only anonymized aggregate counts to our AI provider (OpenAI) — for example, how many connections you have in each stage, how many countries are represented, or the average rating across logged dates. Names, notes, message content, photos, and individual person details are never transmitted for these features.
Ask AI and Premium Personalized Insights
For our conversational AI feature (Ask AI) and richer premium personalized insights, Orbit sends your connections' first names along with relevant metadata to OpenAI for the duration of that specific query. Metadata sent includes current stage, last interaction date, location city and country (with the IANA timezone derived from that location), your stated interest level, recent date ratings, and your own device timezone (so the AI can reason about local times across timezones). This data is processed in real-time and never stored on our servers. OpenAI's API terms (https://openai.com/policies/api-data-usage-policies) prohibit using customer data for model training.
Location Tips on Trip and Date Screens
When you open a Trip or Date Event with a location set, Orbit displays brief AI-generated tips about that place (e.g. "Manila buzzes after sunset" plus a few practical pointers). For these tips, Orbit sends only the location name and country code to our AI provider (OpenAI) — never the trip or event title, never who else is going, never your notes. Results are cached server-side so most lookups don't even reach the AI. These tips are available to all users without any consent prompt because no personal information is involved.
Photo Extraction (AI Profile Capture)
If you choose to add a person by uploading a screenshot of their profile (dating app, social media, or messaging app), Orbit sends the image to our AI provider (OpenAI) to extract visible profile information (name, age, occupation, location, bio).
The image is processed in real-time for that specific extraction and is never stored on our servers. OpenAI's API terms prohibit using customer data for model training.
Important considerations:
- You are responsible for ensuring you have permission to capture and process information about people you add to your orbit.
- The person in the screenshot has not consented to AI processing of their image — please use this feature ethically and respect others' privacy.
- We recommend not using photo extraction for people you have not yet met or with whom you have no existing connection.
- Photos and extracted information remain entirely on your device after extraction — only the temporary OpenAI processing involves transmission.
Photo extraction is invoked only when you choose to add a person by screenshot — if you don’t use that option, no images are sent to AI.
What's never sent to AI for any feature
- Notes you write about people
- Message content or screenshots
- Photos you have attached
- Full names (only first names are sent for personalized features)
- Phone numbers, email addresses, or social handles
7. IS YOUR INFORMATION TRANSFERRED INTERNATIONALLY?
In Short: We may transfer, store, and process your information in countries other than your own.

By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18 or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent’s use of the Services. 12. CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES
Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.
California law requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser DNT signals. Because there currently is not an industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we do not respond to them at this time.
